Author: Cherryl Lewis Article Tools:?? ?? ?? ?? Wolves are among the most documented creatures in mythology and legends. Man has always been fascinated by wolves. These creatures have always been fierce and effective predators, whereas man had to learn to hunt and perfect the art. The Legend of Lobo allows a peak into the world of wolves. This 1962 Walt Disney presentation is the best gift that any admirer of wolves could ask for. It explores the subject with a beautiful story and a touching end.

The screenplay is exceptional, all credit to Dwight Hauser and James Algar. The scores by Oliver Wallace and back ground vocals by Sons of the Pioneers add to the film?s enigma. The Legend of Lobo is based on the story of Ernest Thompson Seton. Rex Allen has narrated from the perspective of wolves as well as humans. This story follows the life and adventures of Lobo, a wolf who spends his life in southwest North America. The filming for the movie took place at Sedona, Arizona.

The story starts when Lobo is six weeks old. He nosedives into his earliest adventure when his dad leaves him alone to look for food. He falls off the cliff near his den and with great difficulty manages to crawl up. At this point, a hungry cougar awaits him. Moments before the cougar can attack the young wolves, some humans passing by the den spot the cougar and shot it down. The wolves escape as they are too small to be seen from a distance. Soon Lobo?s father arrives at the den and upon detecting the scent of intruders, decides to move residence.

With the conclusion of Lobo?s first adventure, a trail of other adventures begin to appear on the horizon. It includes a badger, a tortoise, an armadillo, and an antelope. The movie continues to chronicle Lobo?s life as he wanders away from family and joins a pack of wolves. They hunt the herds of cattle owned by the villagers.

The villagers kill many wolves of the pack Lobo used to be with. With the pack scattered and broken, Lobo is a solitary hunter. The Legend of Lobo goes on to tell tales of Lobo?s experiences with his responsibilities as the head of a new pack, his mate, his fight with cattlemen whose cattle his pack preys on. But something untoward and unfortunate happens that changes Lobo?s approach towards life and humans. What happens? What does Lobo realize? How does it affect Lobo?s life?
