Chris Brown is trying to get back on the straight and narrow. One day after his release from jail on misdemeanor assault charges, the "Don't Judge Me" singer, 24, has decided to voluntarily check himself into rehab to deal with some personal issues, his rep says in a statement to Us Weekly.

The news comes at a crucial time for the controversial star, who was released from jail on Monday, Oct. 28, following his arrest for an alleged assault in Washington, D.C., on Sunday. According to a police report, Brown and his bodyguard were involved in an altercation with another man outside the W Hotel after the man tried to join a picture with the Grammy-winning singer. The report claims that Brown made a homophobic remark to the alleged victim -- "I'm not down with that gay s--t" -- before reportedly punching him in the face.
The hip hop star -- who is still on probation for his 2009 attack of then-girlfriend Rihanna -- was initially charged with felony assault in connection with the incident. Prosecutors reduced the charge to a misdemeanor on Monday; he was released without bail after 36 hours in jail.
Brown has been ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from the man he is accused of assaulting. He and his bodyguard are scheduled to return to court on Nov. 24.
