(Scott Sommerdorf | The Salt Lake Tribune) Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham speaks to defensive back Eric Rowe (18) during a third quarter timeout, Thursday, October 4, 2012.
Utah football ? The Utes must win four of their next five games to become bowl eligible.
It?s official, the goal for Utah?s football season has evolved from the Utes being a player in the Pac-12 race to finding a way to play in the Pac-12.
The Utes, who have lost their last four games, must win four of their five remaining contests to become bowl eligible. The last time the Utes (2-5, 0-4) missed out on the postseason was in 2002, when they finished 5-6 in coach Ron McBride?s final season.
?
Utah?s remaining schedule
The Utes have to win four of their next five games to become bowl eligible. Here is a look at the teams left on the schedule and The Tribune?s projection for the Utes.
Date Opponent Records Projection for Utes
Sat. California 3-5, 2-3 W O-line gave up four sacks to Stanford
Nov. 3 Wash. St. 0-4, 2-5 W New coaching staff hasn?t been able to bring new results
Nov. 10 at Washington 3-4,1-3 L Offense struggling like Utah?s, averaging just 20.7 points
Nov. 17 Arizona 4-3, 1-3 W Has played tough since suffering 49-0 blowout by Oregon
Nov. 23 at Colorado 1-6, 1-3 W Giving up 42.6 points a game
Offensive offenses
After facing some of the best offenses in the Pac-12, the Utes finish their schedule facing some of the worst. Here is how the offenses stack up in scoring in the Pac-12.
School Average points
1. Oregon 51.0
2. Arizona 39.14
3. ASU 37.7
4. USC 34.9
5. UCLA 31.7
6. Stanford 27.4
School Average points
7. Oregon St. 26.2
8. Cal 25.6
9. Washington St. 21.1
10. Washington 20.7
11. Utah 20.1
12. Colorado 18.7
No one is interested in being the team that sees the streak end, said tight end Jake Murphy.
"We feel like we can win in this conference," Murphy said. "I hear people say we may take a couple years to get the athletes in the Pac-12, but we feel like we can do that right now, and if we can put it all together, we feel like we can make this bowl game and do some damage in the last couple games."
The good news for the Utes is their schedule gets considerably lighter after several weeks of facing some of the best teams in the Pac-12. That?s similar to last year, when the Utes won four of their last five games to earn a spot in the Sun Bowl.
The most dangerous games on the schedule, at least on paper, are the home games against California on Saturday, against Arizona on Nov. 17 and the Nov. 10 game at Washington.
Running such a gamut will be difficult, but Utah?s players say they are determined to get it done.
"It?s frustrating, but we feel like if we can win a game, we can go on a winning streak," safety Eric Rowe said.
Of comfort to the Utes is that all of the teams remaining on the schedule have had their own share of issues, much like the Utes.
Cal has been one of the most unpredictable teams. The Bears lost to Nevada but played Ohio State close then lost at home to Arizona State before upsetting UCLA.
story continues below
Particularly at issue for the Bears is an offensive line that has been porous at times and a defense that is giving up 25.8 points a game.
However, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham cautioned Monday the Bears are more dangerous than they appear.
"They have struggled at putting it all together this year," he said. "But the talent level of their football team is something else."
As for the rest of the remaining games, the opponents have had their share of issues, just like the Utes.
Offensive guru Mike Leach has not been able to work any wonders with Washington State?s offense this year. The Cougars average only 21.1 points a game.
Washington State has been on a downward spiral that started with a 52-21 loss at Oregon on Oct. 6. The Huskies have lost their last two games, including Saturday?s 52-17 defeat at Arizona.
Washington next plays Oregon State and at Cal. If they lose both, it might be hard for the Huskies to be up mentally for facing the Utes on Nov. 10.

Local Culinary Creations with Artisan Whisky
Text & Photos: Clint Anesbury
Pairing food with various alcoholic beverages has been a tradition of many cultures for many generations. Each individual culture have used their own unique domestic grog and successfully paired it with a local delicacy, or in more common instances a standard, although humble, local dish: the corner stone of nutrition for the community. There are many nations throughout the globe which are notorious for matching locally produced liquor to an array of food dishes, and possible one of the most widely known places to do so is right here in our own back yard.
Japan, with its customary regime of tantalizing taste buds with well balanced combinations, has mastered the skill of matching up spirits with food. Like many other cultures, pairing dates back to a period where the Shogun reigned and Ronin were running around the country side with swords drawn. In current times, the relationship between food and alcohol has long lived on despite the decline in drink trends, such as Sake and Sochu consumers.
Although the ongoing tradition of pairing food with drink is still present, or quite arguably the other way around, things have stepped up a notch throughout the globe. A lot of people have become that little more sophisticated when it comes to indulging their palates. Consumers of both food and drink are becoming educated and crossing boundaries that were once never considered. Instead of the classic pairing of say wine with a pasta dish or an adequate beer with a steak, dinners have become more daring and began to break away and opt for new alternatives. Perhaps a prime example is that of the current interest of pairing single malt whisky to various menus, and in particular Japanese whiskies. Locally distilled whisky from all the competitive brands can be amazingly complex; therefore it lends itself to pairing with an array of foods.
Breaking away from tradition, and as bizarre as it may sound, anything from Sushi to Nagoya?s famed chicken wings and Miso Katsu, seafood to Japanese pickles, the vast range of food items that can be paired with Japanese whisky are waiting for the challenge.
Sure, there are a bunch of well received whisky brands throughout the world, with many available in all the major liquor stores throughout Japan, but locally distilled whisky from the hands and hearts of the blenders of the Japanese whisky industry often create their distillate with the thought of making the spirit suitable for food pairing.
If you desire the taste and aroma of something completely different, arguably unique and often untouched, then pairing Japanese whisky to your next meal is sure to satisfy your craving. The exceptional and exquisite flavours in Japanese whisky will ensure an overwhelming experience. Next time you are out and about, and finances are not an issue treat yourself to a local, reasonable dish, paired with a Japanese whisky and savor the complexity of the spirit matched with food, you may bring to light a whole sensation and liking you never thought was possible.

If your facebook app is asking for user permissions, and they have authorized it, the signed_request parameter that is passed to your rails app should contain the details you need. So what you can do is decode the parameter, and grab the facebook user id from the hash itself.
Try something like this:
class ApplicationController before_filter :inspect_signed_request protected def base64_url_decode(input) input += ('=' * (4 - input.length % 4) % 4) Base64.decode64(input.tr('-_', '+/')) end def inspect_signed_request encoded_sig, payload = params[:signed_request].split('.', 2) # decode the data sig = base64_url_decode(encoded_sig) data = JSON.parse(self.class.base64_url_decode(payload)) raise data.inspect end end
That will basically raise an exception, showing you the details of the signed request. Essentially, you can just parse it out as such, and check for the signed request FB ID value. If it's not there, you can add some code to redirect them to the login form instead.

Pet parenting is a serious responsibility. People?s lives change when they add a new four-legged member to their family. Their routine begins to involve making trips every week to the local store to buy food and supplies for their growing animal. In some cases, pet owners are known to visit their favourite store 15 times a month!
Today?s owners seek not only a large selection of brand-name products, but also the best nutrition in pet foods, trending toward natural and holistic diets. They will go back to specialty stores that offer good deals and helpful educational resources. The better the product selection and the shopping experience, the more likely they are to become loyal customers.
Even when retail in a general sense has been hit hard by an economic downturn, pet specialty retail chains have continued to thrive, through unique market positioning and a community-based approach.

NEW YORK (AP) ? Canadian National Railway Co.'s third-quarter earnings barely grew as costs rose for labor, fuel and other items.
The freight railroad operator also announced a share-repurchase program of up to $1.4 billion to buy back up to 18 million shares.
Net income rose less than 1 percent, to $668.5 million (664 million Canadian dollars), or $1.53 (CA$1.52) per share. Analysts were expecting $1.53 per share, according to a survey by FactSet.
Much of the company's revenue is denominated in U.S. dollars. If currency exchange-rate fluctuations were excluded, net income would have dropped $8.1 million (CA$8 million) or 2 cents per share.
The company stood by its July forecast that full-year earnings per share will rise up to 15 percent compared with last year's $4.88 per share (CA$4.84).
Third-quarter revenue rose 8 percent to $2.52 billion (CA$2.50 billion), compared with analysts' forecast of $2.55 billion. Operating costs rose 10 percent.
CEO Claude Mongeau called the quarter a "solid" performance, with increasing revenue in all the company's business segments and most operating measurements.
Revenue from carrying petroleum and chemicals rose 15 percent due to a pickup in shipments of crude oil from western Canada.
Mongeau said the company was cautious about the economy but sees opportunities for long-term growth. He predicted that revenue would grow slightly faster than growth in the North American economy.
Before the report, U.S.-traded shares fell 30 cents to close at $87.87. During extended training, they lost 26 cents to $87.61.

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) ? A powerful explosion hit Damascus on Sunday, killing 10 people on a day when the U.N. peace envoy was visiting the Syrian capital for talks with President Bashar Assad on the crisis.
An official speaking from the scene said an explosives-rigged taxi blew up 50 meters (yards) from the Bab Touma neighborhood's main police station.
He and another official said 17 had been wounded. Both insisted on anonymity because they are not allowed to make press statements.
Bab Touma, a popular attraction for shoppers, is inhabited mostly by members of Syria's Christian minority.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported 10 had died and dozens were wounded, adding that it was not immediately clear if the victims and the wounded were civilians or policemen.
An Associated Press reporter at the scene said he saw blood stains in the street and on the pavements. He said glass windows of several shops in the area were shattered and at least four cars were completely burnt.
No other details were immediately available. Islamist militant groups fighting alongside the rebels have sometimes claimed responsibility for bomb attacks against security targets in the capital.
In another party of the city, Lakhdar Brahimi, who represents the U.N. and the Arab League, met with Assad as part of his push for a cease-fire between rebels and government forces during the four-day Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, which begins Oct. 26.
He told reporters following a closed-door meeting that he had earlier met with unidentified Syrian opposition groups inside and outside the country to consult on his truce plan. He said he received "promises" but not a "commitment" from them to honor the cease-fire.
"There is a promise to stop fighting," he said, referring to the opposition. He noted that he "found an overwhelming response" from Assad's opponents to his cease-fire plan and that "all of them have said that it's a good idea which they support."
He declined to reveal Assad's response to his plan, viewed as a preliminary step toward a larger deal.
"We are hopeful that the Eid in Syria will be calm if not happy," he said, adding that he will return to Syria after the holiday. "If we find that this calm is actually achieved during the Eid and continued, we will try to build on it," he added.
"The Syrian people expect more than a truce for a few days and it is their right, but all we can promise is that we will work hard to achieve their aspirations," he said.
Brahimi arrived in Damascus Friday after a tour of Middle East capitals to drum up support for the cease-fire. A range of countries including Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Germany have backed the idea.
Brahimi met Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem on Saturday. A Foreign Ministry statement released after the meeting did not mention the proposed truce, but said the two men discussed "objective and rational circumstances to stop the violence from any side in order to prepare for a comprehensive dialogue among the Syrians."
Syrian government forces and rebels have both agreed to and then promptly violated internationally brokered cease-fires in the past, and there is little indication that either is willing to stop fighting now.

A man holds up a banner reading 'Austerity - That's Enough' as a march to protest the government's austerity measures prepares to set off from the Embankment in London on Friday.
By NBC News staff and wires reports
Updated at 8:25 a.m ET: LONDON - Thousands of anti-austerity protesters marched in London on Saturday to protest against public spending cuts enacted by a government fighting off accusations that it is run by an upper-class elite that ignores the plight of recession-hit voters.?
The march comes at a time when Prime Minister David Cameron's Conservative-led coalition is reeling from the resignation on Friday of a senior minister accused of calling police "plebs," a class-laden insult for working people.?
Conservatives faced a barrage of negative headlines on Saturday over the departure of Andrew Mitchell, the "Chief Whip" or party enforcer, four weeks after he swore at police guarding the gates to Cameron's Downing Street office.?
Class wars: 'Gate-gate' scandal swamps UK PM David Cameron
A second row involving George Osborne, the finance minister -- who sat in a first class train carriage with a standard class ticket before paying for an upgrade -- played into the hands of critics who say the Conservatives are privileged and out-of-touch.?
"Who Do They Think They Are?" asked the Daily Mail newspaper in a front page headline, while the Financial Times said the bad news over Mitchell and Osborne capped a "dismal week for the Tories", the center-right party that is trailing in the polls.?
Nurses, cleaners, librarians and ambulance drivers are among tens of thousands marching past the Houses of Parliament to a rally in Hyde Park in one of the biggest anti-austerity protests this year. Marches will also take place in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Glasgow, Scotland.?
General strike?
Under grey autumnal skies, police closed roads around parliament in Westminster before the start of the march at 1100 GMT (6 a.m. ET).?
Trade union leaders are seeking to pile more pressure on Cameron at the event where they will tell protesters that the government's economic plan has failed, prolonging Britain's second recession since the financial crisis.?
Greek strike turns violent: 'Enough is enough'
The head of the head of the RMT transport workers union was set to say that Saturday's march was a step towards a nationwide strike, Sky News reported.
"The marches are a building block towards the objective of coordinated action and a general strike. ?That is why RMT says, march today, strike tomorrow,"?Bob Crow was planning to say, Sky News reported without citing a source.
Reuters reported that Brendan Barber, head of the Trades Union Congress, an umbrella group which represents 54 unions, planned to say the following:
"Austerity isn't working. It is hammering the poorest and the most vulnerable ...?Ministers told us that if we only accept the pain, recovery would come. Instead we have been mired in a double-dip recession."?
Coalition under pressure
The coalition government has responded to calls from unions and the opposition Labour Party to do more to boost growth by relaxing planning laws and boosting lending to businesses.?
A downsized parade as Spain's celebrates national day amidst austerity cuts
But its latest attempt to ease the pressure on squeezed households backfired this week when Cameron said the government would legislate to force energy companies to give customers their lowest tariff. The surprise announcement appeared to take his own ministers by surprise and sowed confusion over what he meant and whether it would actually happen.?
However, Sajid Javid, a Conservative Treasury minister, said the government was right to focus on cutting borrowing and that data last week indicating a fall in unemployment and inflation showed that its economic policies were on track.?
"There is a still a lot to do," he told Sky News. "I don't pretend for a second that we are out of the woods, but this government is facing up to the problem, it is not sticking its head in the sand like (Labour opposition leader) Ed Miliband."?
Asked about the perception that the Conservatives are out of touch, he said: "I think that what matters is what is actually happening out there in the real world."?
Spain, Portugal hit with anti-austerity protests
Opponents of the unions say the government should stick to its plan to eliminate a budget deficit that stood at 8 percent of gross domestic product last year, the biggest of any major European country.?
"The government must not listen to militant union leaders," said Mark Littlewood, director general of the Institute of Economic Affairs, which describes itself as an independent free-market thinktank. "The cuts we have seen are tiny and further concessions to these protesters would be wholly unaffordable."?

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A chipper Jonathan Vilma gave New Orleans' struggling defense an emotional lift, while Drew Brees did the rest for the suddenly resurgent Saints.
Vilma played for the first time while appealing a season-long suspension for his role in the Saints' bounty program Sunday, finishing with one quarterback hit but no tackles in a 35-28 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"It's awesome to have him back," receiver Lance Moore said. "To go through the things that he's gone through individually, then to just kind of break through and get a chance to get out there, be with his teammates - he spoke to us last night, got us all fired up, and we had to come out here and play well."
While it's debatable how much Vilma's play impacted the defense, the Saints stopped two threats near the end zone in the second half, including the final drive of the game to preserve New Orleans' second straight win.
Brees, meanwhile, continued the stellar play the Saints (2-4) are counting on getting from him to turn their season around following an 0-4 start.
Brees extended his NFL record for consecutive games with at least one TD pass to 49, while leading long scoring drives on four straight possessions to turn a 14-point deficit into a 28-21 halftime lead.
Despite wasting two scoring opportunities - one when they four straight running plays failed from the Saints' 1 - Tampa Bay (2-4) still nearly found a way to get the game into overtime.
Josh Freeman marched the Bucs from their own 19 to the New Orleans 9 in the closing seconds. On the game's final play, Freeman rolled to his left before throwing to Mike Williams for an apparent tying touchdown.
But the receiver had been pushed out of the back of the end zone before coming back into the field of play. So, what appeared to be a possible tying catch was nullified for illegal touching.
Bucs coach Greg Schiano said he didn't see what happened on the play
"It really doesn't matter. If it's called, it's called. You live with it. There's nothing you can do about it," Schiano said. "So whether he did, didn't, we'll see it on tape. That's life."
Vilma was very business-like, answering questions while getting dressed in the New Orleans locker room. He said he wasn't sure how many snaps he played, but that he felt fine and believed he was in good enough condition to play an entire game.
The veteran linebacker said he had always believed he'd get an opportunity to play this season.
"Most people didn't, but it was a long, drawn-out process, and for good or bad, it ended up this way and I was able to be back on the field with my teammates. That was a great feeling," Vilma said.
"I talked to the team last night. I don't really want to get into it," Vilma added. "I think my talk, hopefully it worked since we won today."
Ronde Barber's first-quarter interception set up Freeman's 13-yard TD pass to Tiquan Underwood. Jackson had a 17-yard scoring reception and Doug Martin ran 36 yards for a touchdown for Tampa Bay.
The Saints (2-4) barely had the ball in the third quarter, but took advantage of Tampa Bay's inability to get into the end zone when Brees put together a 12-play, 95-yard march that Pierre Thomas finished with a 5-yard TD run that made it 35-21 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the game.
Brees threw TD passes of 17 yards to Marques Colston, 9 yards to Darren Sproles, 48 yards to Joseph Morgan and 20 yards to David Thomas to overcome the New Orleans defense yielding 513 yards. He has thrown for three or more touchdowns in five of six games this season.
"We want to get on a streak here. You've got to win more than one before you're on a streak," Brees said. "So now we've got two, and we want to keep that going."
Freeman threw for a career-high 420 yards and three touchdowns for the Bucs (2-4), who scored on their first three possessions of the game to build a 21-7 lead. Dallas Clark's 3-yard scoring reception trimmed Tampa Bay's deficit to 35-28 with four minutes left, and Freeman completed two passes to Vincent Jackson to help the Bucs get into position to possibly force overtime.
Jackson had seven receptions for 216 yards, but failed to score on a 95-yard play in which safety Malcolm Jenkins ran him down to make the tackle at the Tampa Bay 1. LeGarrette Blount was stopped for no gain on three straight runs, then Freeman lost 4 yards on a quarterback keeper on fourth down.
Brees launched the Saints' final scoring drive from there. He also led TD drives of 80, 80, 79 and 72 on consecutive possessions in the opening half.
Vilma pressured Freeman on an incompletion that was nearly intercepted by Roman Harper, and got his hands on another pass that he tipped first with his right hand and then his left before it fell incomplete.
"Having him back just, emotionally, really made a difference in this game," interim Saints coach Aaron Kromer said. "We were trying to get him in in certain packages, and we had a couple of linebackers go down early in the game."
Brees said Vilma's presence made a difference.
"You could just feel how grateful he was (for) just the opportunity to get out there again, but also, just the intensity. He's just one of those guys, very vocal. He obviously knows guys very well, they know him, so his ability to say certain things at the right time and just provide a lift, whether it be just his productivity on the field or making a play, or something he would say, that presence was definitely felt this week," Brees said.
NOTES: Lance Moore had nine receptions for 121 yards for the Saints, which finished with 458 yards total offense. ... Tampa Bay's 513 yards total offense was a season-high. ... It was Kromer's last game as interim coach. Assistant head coach Joe Vitt returns from his suspension this week and will lead the Saints in Sean Payton's absence the rest of the season.

Entrepreneurs, by nature, are do-it-yourself people. Not a bad thing. While that trait may serve you in many areas there?s one where it actually works against you: Marketing. Here?s five reasons why.
1)?? You Don?t Know What You Don?t Know.
While you might feel savvy after reading a couple marketing books or listening to a savvy marketing guru, it doesn?t compare to working with a qualified team or consultant with great experience and a great record. You simply don?t know what you don?t know, and if you do it yourself, what you don?t know will hurt you. Like having a tag-line that makes no sense, or sends a wrong message. Like pouring money into SEO or your website when the better focus is Content Marketing and improved organic search. Like not realizing you need video. Or having a self-produced video that?s so unprofessional it works against you. The list goes on.
2)?? A Business Owner Can?t Be Objective.
Passionate business owners tend to be absorbed by their business?an advantage when it comes to DIY marketing, right? Not really. Effective marketing starts with an unbiased perspective. To be successful at marketing, business blemishes must be seen clearly. As a business owner you just don?t have that objectivity. If you read Ken Segall?s book Insanely Simple, about his working with Apple, you?ll read how Steve Jobs was proven wrong time and time again by his more objective and talented outside team who created some of the most iconic and successful marketing ever done.
3)?? The Best Marketing Isn?t About A System or Formula.
As more small business owners attempt to save money by trying to do their own thing, more self-proclaimed marketing gurus are popping up on the Internet with their ?Amazing Profit-Making Marketing? systems. They all sound amazing and they all claim amazing results. They even have amazing testimonials. But every business is different, and a cookie-cutter, systematic approach is not the most effective way to market a business or product. While an ?Amazing Profit-Making Marketing System? sounds amazing, the ones making the most money from them are usually the ones getting you to spend money on them.
4)?? Great Marketing Requires Talent.
Great marketing is part science, part art. Yet, the creative part often gets lost or diminished in this ever-advancing tech world. Focused, creative talent is the ingredient that helps communicate your message and persuade your prospects to buy. It?s not easy to find, but if you do it?ll make a huge difference.
5)?? DIY? Doesn?t Really Save Money.
Because you?re not spending money on outside resources you might think you?re saving tons of money with a DIY approach. Just remember this?it?s not just what you spend, it?s what you spend and get back on what you spend.
Great marketing will get you back more, and sometimes significantly more, than what you spend. So, how do you get great marketing? You find and hire great marketing people, like Steve Jobs did, like Nike?s Phil Knight did, and like every successful business owner does. And, they didn?t just do it when they were big successful companies with huge marketing budgets. They did it from the very beginning of their companies, only months after they incorporated.
You also have to factor in what your time is worth. It?s not cheap. If you kept track of every minute you spent trying to do it yourself and applied a dollar value to that, you?d be surprised at the expense. Also realize that every expensive minute you spend fumbling with something you don?t do great is taking away valuable time and talent from something you do do great. That?s another expense.
To sum up I?ll end with a simple quote from someone who?s interviewed hundreds of small business owners and knows what it takes to be successful:
?Business success is all about finding the right outside service providers and using them wisely. You can?t do it all yourself.?

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) ? President Barack Obama offered a mocking medical diagnosis Friday for what he considers rival Mitt Romney's bout with shifting positions: "Romnesia."
Making a direct gender-pitch in hotly contested Virginia, Obama told a crowd of women and college students that when it comes to issues important to women's health and jobs, Romney has conveniently overlooked his past stands.
"He's forgetting what his own positions are ? and he's betting that you will too," Obama told an audience of 9,000 at George Mason University. "I mean he's changing up so much and backtracking and sidestepping. We've got to name this condition that he's going through. I think it's called Romnesia."
Obama, a broad grin on his face, borrowed heavily from the style of comedian Jeff Foxworthy, known for his "you might be a redneck" standup routines. The comedy offered the president a warm-up of sorts before Monday's final presidential debate in Boca Raton, Fla.
"If you say you'll protect a woman's right to choose, but you stand up at a primary debate and said that you'd be 'delighted' to sign a law outlawing that right to choose in all cases, man, you've definitely got Romnesia," he said.
Riffing as if he were still delivering one-liners at Thursday night's Catholic charity dinner in New York, Obama said he had good news for anyone who suffers from Romnesia. "Obamacare covers pre-existing conditions," he bellowed. "We can fix you up. We've got a cure! We can make you well, Virginia. This is a curable disease," Obama said, pounding the podium.
Republicans said the exchange was steeped in irony, noting that then-candidate Obama said during a Virginia event in 2008 that voters "don't deserve a bunch of name-calling" or a "bunch of mud-slinging."
"Women haven't forgotten how we've suffered over the last four years in the Obama economy," said Republican Barbara Comstock, a member of Virginia's House of Delegates.
Obama renewed his criticism of Romney's economic plan, quoting a line in a New York Times column by economist Paul Krugman. "There's no jobs plan. There's just a snow job on the American people."
Obama added, "If he offered you that deal when he was in corporate finance, you wouldn't give him a dime." So why, Obama asked, would voters cast their ballots for him.
Obama's message was aimed at suburban women who form a formidable voting bloc in northern Virginia. The president raised once more Romney's comment during the second debate that he received "binders full of women" when he sought to diversify his cabinet as Massachusetts governor. "You don't want someone who needs to ask for binders of women. You don't want that guy," Obama said.

Updated at 2:50 p.m. ET: INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- A 30-year-old father died shielding his children from bullets fired into their Inglewood home early Saturday by a gunman who set the duplex on fire.
The father's 4-year-old son was also killed and the man's wife and two other children were wounded in the attack, police said.
The shooting and fire in the 4900 block of 99th Street was reported about 4 a.m.
"The fire had been started before the shooting, and then the suspect came into the house with a painter's mask on,'' said Inglewood Police Chief Mark Fronterotta. "The father was in a position of shielding the children as officers came into the scene."
Police evacuated homes and urged others to remain inside behind locked doors while they searched for the gunman who was believed to be armed and may have hid in a home nearby, police said.
He was described as African American, 5-foot-6, about 55 years-old. Police said he may have lived in a rear unit on 99th Street near La Brea Avenue.

Details were sketchy, but five gunshot victims were taken to hospitals from the address.
The other victims included a 6-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, Fronterotta said. The only one in the house not injured was an 8-year-old boy, he said.
Southern?California Edison officials were being called to the scene to cut power to homes while firefighters doused the blaze and officers investigated the shooting.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) ? Former President Bill Clinton said Friday that President Barack Obama is facing a tough re-election race because "impatient" Americans haven't fully recognized an economy on the mend.
Campaigning for Obama in Green Bay, Wis., Clinton urged voters to stay the course as more signs of a recovery sink in. Clinton said voters should judge Obama on the past three years, in which private sector job growth has made up for lost ground.
"This shouldn't be a race," Clinton said. "The only reason it is, is because Americans are impatient on things not made before yesterday and they don't understand why the economy is not totally hunky-dory again."
The former president said Obama's difficulty in his race with Republican challenger Mitt Romney is that "people don't feel it yet" even as the unemployment rate ticks down and the manufacturing sector perks up. Clinton said Obama deserves credit for stabilizing a situation that saw the country hemorrhage jobs well into his first year.
"Gov. Romney acts like from the minute the president took his hand off the Bible he was responsible for every lost job," Clinton said.
Everywhere he goes, Romney argues that the tepid recovery is grounds for a change. The shape of the economy consistently tops lists of voter concerns.
A local police official said 2,200 turned out to hear Clinton at a college fieldhouse. Clinton won Wisconsin in both of his presidential campaigns.
Republicans think they can flip the state, which hasn't gone to them since 1984. Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan is on Romney's ticket and has campaigned heavily in the state in the past few months.

With the average cost of a movie ticket hovering around $9 and $14, and concessions reaching as high as $5 for a small popcorn, $4.25 for a pack of Skittles, and $5 for a medium soda, consumers have good reason to keep close tabs on their spending.?
That's why I make no bones about buying the kids' pack at the concession stand. Yes, it's miserly and some of the ethicists reading this won't approve, but a girl's gotta have her buttered popcorn and Diet Coke.
Doing this means I spend about half of what I would have since a kid's pack at AMC, for example, costs only $6. By bundling the popcorn, soda and candy in one, I'm effectively saving $8.25 ? nearly the price of a movie ticket ? than I would have if I'd bought the large popcorn, small soda and Skittles separately.?
I'm also creating less waste and helping to keep my weight in check. Kids' portions are smaller ? compare a 6 cup small popcorn to a kids' size, which is roughly 2 cups ? and I'm less likely to ditch the leftover food when I'm done since the portion is reasonable.?
Apparently it's also acceptable to do, as I've never had a cashier check me on it once.?
As we've written before, the real issue with ordering a kids' portion, or off the kids' menu, comes when you're doing it in a dishonest way. If you're trying to pull the wool over your server's eyes, saying the meal is really for your kid when it isn't, then you should spring for the big girl's plate, said Joshua Halberstam, author of Everyday Ethics and a professor of philosophy at Columbia University.?
But if it's simply a matter of saving cash, which in this case it certainly is, you'll be in the clear.?
Said Peter Singer, professor of bioethics at Princeton University and author of Practical Ethics: "I think it's entirely ethical ... A lot of foreigners come here and are amazed at the size of the portions. They don't want to waste food."?

On Jimmy Fallon, Anything Could Happen |
Even as?Ellie Goulding?s breakout US single ?Lights? continues to make stateside waves, the UK chanteuse has begun promoting her latest album Halcyon, released October 9, and its lead track, ?Anything Could Happen.? The song hasn?t picked up on radio yet, but Goulding?s performance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon could be the ticket to give ?Anything? an extra boost, since she was lively and spirited enough in the clip to sell at least a few digital downloads of her new single.
Wearing black leather and showing off her badass haircut (boyfriend Skrillex must be so proud), Goulding looked very much at home on stage as she performed the upbeat, jangly pop single. In earlier performances, Goulding has looked a little bit skittish at taking such high-profile venues, but it seems like she?s officially crossed over into the realm of the seasoned pop veteran now. Watch the clip above.
